Linking the HE Community to EFA and related MDGs
I. News on the Project
A round of applause!
The very first IAU HEEFA capacity building session which was held on May 25 to 26 in Cuernavaca, Mexico was a resounding success. Over 100 local stakeholders in EFA convened to exchange ideas, identify priorities in EFA and map out ways on how to strengthen higher education’s engagement in EFA. 16 local higher education institutions participated and dialogued with representatives from the Federal and local government, NGOs, teachers, schools and students. The session successfully ended by the adoption of:
- a declaration (in Spanish) that recognizes the importance of EFA and the need for greater engagement by all stakeholders in EFA;
- the creation of several committees linked to identified priorities in EFA to define steps forward;
- a short-term agenda was defined
Next date: July 8-9 July
HEEFA is now going to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso to conduct its second capacity building session to strengthen higher education in EFA activities with local stakeholders. HEEFA meets the public
During the capacity building session, participants were introduced to HEEFA and had the chance to learn how to feed into it. Volunteers provided data and together they discovered how to contribute projects even when the descriptions were in Spanish. Everyone left with a copy the User’s Guide, also available online.
